A Lack of Common Sense in Temecula
Temecula (California) is host to a diverse community, including Muslims. Recently, the local Islamic community is seeking to open an enlarged mosque in a new (changed) location.
There are many reasonable questions and actions regarding Islam and mosque projects, but any questions or actions which refer to the tenets or seek to “drive them out with the Bible” are wrong-headed, even to the point of stupid.
Muslims are United States residents and citizens and deserve all of the protections that are available. While the preponderance of terrorist acts over the past decade have been perpetrated by those professing Islam as their religion that does NOT mean that peaceful members of our community are the same.
Islam is facing the exact same persecution that other religions have suffered here in the United States. This includes Mormons and Catholics. The United States were founded in religious diversity but not always in tolerance. We must restore the ideas that all men (people) are created equal and religion is a matter for each person — and that tolerance is the only American response to diversity.
Hold all people to the same standards and all groups to the same standards — do not construct rules and codes that intentionally have a disparate impact on one religion.
